Been digging around the archives and finding some of our older weddings. This one was in Tirtha Uluwatu, Bali. We went down in 2005 to shoot this for Victor and Michele. This is the montage poster we produced for them. I will look around to find more photos from their wedding to fill this out later on.
The Wedding of Pastor Kevin Loo to Esther Ku in City Harvest Church

I have been going through the archives and posting up these golden oldies recently. Here’s Pastor Kevin and Esthers wedding in City Harvest Church (CHC), Subang Jaya. When they asked me to be their wedding photographer I didn’t realise that I was going to end up covering weddings for almost the entire leadership team. City Harvest Church has moved into a newer, larger and nicer lit building. These photos were taken in the old windowless “blue cave” church with the Canon 20D, Nikon D2h, and Nikon D70. Back then these were considered the wedding cameras of choice but it was challenging. The new generation of cameras have changed things quite a bit!
Dushen and Sherri’s Wedding in Ubud Bali
Dushen and Sherri had a huge multi day wedding back in Kuala Lumpur, but had a smaller intimate and really fun filled wedding in Ubud Bali. The first night was a cool chill out at the Jazz Cafe, a well known restaurant and night spot followed the next day with a wedding ceremony put together by their friends. These photos tell part of their story.
Technical: Camera used was the Canon 20D with the 17-40L, 50mm 1.4 and 85 F1.8. Thankfully DSLRs have advanced quite substantially from 2005 as the 20D was put under an enormous stress test with the low light and high contrast situations prevalent in this shoot. Newer cameras like the D3, D800 and D610 would have handled these situations much better and are part of the reason why I switched to Nikon.
Peter and Dianne’s Renewal of vows in St Andrews Church and Dinner at the Carcosa Seri Negara
I know Peter and Dianne from Calvary Church in Damansara Heights (now relocated to the Calvary Convention Centre in Bukit Jalil). They wanted to do a renewal of vows and opted for St Andrews Church in Raja Chulan. An officiant flew up from Singapore to do the rites as they are done back in Peters home town. Regarding the standing on chairs and kissing….it’s a traditional thing. 🙂
The black and whites were shot on Ilford film hence the “sand-grain” look. Digital cameras used were the Canon 20D, Fujifilm S2pro, Nikon D70 and D2h. looking back camera sensors have come a very long way.
Jehan and Shariman’s Traditional Malay Wedding captured on black and white film
Jehan and Shariman’s traditional Malay wedding was shot on Black and White film and then scanned for this web site. It was a happy day for both of them and this is certainly apparent when you view the photos. Malaysia is a melting pot of foods and cultures and is one of the reasons I love living here. Traditions like Henna came from India and are commonplace at Malay weddings. The intricate patterns are quite something. The University of Maryland contacted me as they were keen on using some of them to show various wedding traditions of Malaysia and the region.
Please note that the apparent grainy-ness is due to the digital scanning of the original silver halide based negatives. The actual hand prints looked very smooth and had much deeper tonality than the digital images visible here.
